'After years of suffering diminishing sight because of glaucoma and cataracts I had the good fortune to be treated by Mr Michael Tappin. The result was fantastic - my sight was restored, which gave me a new lease of life at 84 years of age. I was so impressed with his professional, patient and understanding manner with the elderly, I prompted my daughter to raise funds, which has helped buy specialist equipment for the Eye Department.'

One day I was blind, and the next day I could see. It was so sudden, I could hardly believe it. It was like a miracle. The staff at both hospitals were marvellous. Mr Tappin explained everything in detail. He even phoned me at home to see how I was getting on. I feel privileged to have been amongst the first to have this new operation. My life has been transformed. After the operation my sister came with me to the eye clinic. She was so overwhelmed when I read from the top of the chart to the bottom, that she cried.'

Mrs Matcham had a endothelial cell transplant in her left eye, having lost her vision in her right eye several years beforehand. She was treated at St Peters in Chertsey and the Royal Surrey in Guildford. Mrs Matcham was unable to see but now has almost perfect eyesight in her left eye.

I am so enjoying the revelation of being able to see so clearly, particularly in the glaring light!

The whole process from the first consultation and contact with his team, the cataract operation and the second consultation went smoothly throughout and one's confidence in Michael Tappin's manner and professionalism justified and bore out what friends had told me.
